LUT University is a pioneering science university in Finland, bringing together the fields of science and business since 1969. LUT international community is composed of approximately 6,000 students and experts engaged in scientific research and academic education. Clean energy and water, circular economy and sustainable business are the key questions of humankind to which LUT seeks solutions through technology and business. LUT expertise in energy is reflected in LUT’S Green Campus, a unique research and study environment. The lead partner of the project is Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT). LUT has close relations with many Russian universities including the partners of this project, namely SPbSPU and SPbU. LUT University is the leading partner of this application and project. From LUT two laboratories are in this application as partners:
- Laboratory of Green Chemistry – is responsible for the research on novel methods on water purification and pollution treatment.
- Laboratory of Intelligent Machines – is responsible for the development of system control and mobile machinery of the water purification plant.
Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University has a long-standing and successful history over 100 years where many important discoveries and inventions have been made. It was founded in 1899. SPbPU has recently become the “National Research University” – a recognized Russian and international leader in the field of engineering and economic education with a rich educational, scientific and innovation infrastructure. SPbPU is a leading university of Russia with over than 26 000 students and postgraduates, 4500 of them are foreign citizens from 115 countries. The University is carrying out education and research activities in the following areas: natural science, engineering, economics and humanities. The University is proud of its longstanding traditions of international cooperation with many foreign educational institutions, research organizations and industrial companies. Among the partners of the University are 293 universities and 90 partner companies from 68 countries. From SPbPU Higher School of Automation and Robotics is in this application as a partner and is responsible for the design of the process automation of the water purification plant.
Saint Petersburg State University is the oldest and one of the largest universities in Russia. Founded in 1724 by a decree of Peter the Great, the University from the very beginning has had a strong focus on fundamental research in science, engineering and humanities, and equipped its graduates with what it takes to contribute to Russia’s success. It is made up of 24 specialized faculties and institutes, the Academic Gymnasium, the Medical College, the College of Physical Culture and Sports, Economics and Technology. The university has two primary campuses: one on Vasilievsky Island and the other in Peterhof. Now Saint Petersburg State University has over 5 000 academic staff members, 418 main educational programmes and more than 800 additional educational programmes, more than 2000 internship contracts and partnership agreements, over 485 partner universities; 9 Nobel Prize winners, 26 resource centres of the University Research Park, more than 7 mln depository items in stock at the M. Gorky Scientific Library of St Petersburg University and over 11 000 places in the University halls of residence. From St Petersburg University Department of Analytical Chemistry is in this application as a partner and is responsible for the research and development on the chemistry of water purification plant.
OMEGA is a unique innovative Russian company in the field of scientific solutions with an emphasis in mechatronics. Company clients are Metrostroy, Directorate of FPFC of the Saint Petersburg Ministry of Construction Industry, Housing and Utilities Sector of the Russian Federation, Transstroy, etc. OMEGA’s main projects are a modernization of tow truck control system for Saint-Petersburg flood prevention facility complex and developing of the control system and moving drive for the pull-out field at “Saint-Petersburg” stadium. OMEGA is an engineering company expert in the field of water purification machines manufacturing.
Lappeenranta Free Zone Ltd administrates the city’s cargo, passenger, and small boat harbours and harbour traffic and manages their maintenance, development, and marketing. The main aim of Lappeenranta Free Zone Ltd is to ensure that the infrastructure of the city’s cargo, passenger, and small boat harbours provides companies, local people, and visitors with the best-operating conditions that are achievable with the available resources. Port of Lappeenranta is the end-user that will provide the research team with the history data and will use the project output.
