Heikki Handroos

Principle Investigator of the CBC OneDrop project

Heikki Handroos has been a Full Professor in Machine Automation in Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) since 1998. He was an Associate Professor in LUT between 1992-1998 and Senior Assistant and Researcher at Tampere University of Technology between 1985-1992. He earned his M.Sc and D.Sc degrees in Tampere University of technology 1985 and 1991 respectively. Prof. Handroos has been a principal investigator in more than 50 national and international research projects, whose total budget is more than 20M€. He has published around 300 papers in the field of mechatronics and robotics. He has been a visiting professor in University of Minnesota 2013, St Petersburg Peter the Great Polytechnic University and National Defense Academy (Japan).

He is a member of ASME and IEEE. He has been an Associate Editor of ASME Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control since 2014. He has supervised more than twenty doctoral dissertations and participated in the evaluation process of several dissertations internationally. He was a Steering Committee Member of COST Action TD1006 European Network on Rehabilitation Robotics between 2011-2017 and Member of Board of Governors of Fluid Power Network International (FPNI) between 2010-2017. He has been a principal investigator in several projects in which the key robotic systems have been developed for ITER and CFETR fusion reactors. He has been an inventor in four international patents and been Chairman of Board and/or co-founder in three companies, namely Mevea Ltd, Haptronics Ltd and THT Robotics.
